Happy Birthday Sane Moms!

Today is SaneMoms.com’s first birthday!

Thanks to all of you who’ve come along for the ride, it’s been an enjoyable year and I’ve loved reading every single post you’ve shared and am glad for the company in my own quest for sane motherhood.  I often wonder if I should have named it INsaneMoms.com instead!

We’ve gone through some growing pains, and as you may have noticed posts have been really light in the last couple of months :|.  I’d love to get more of you to join, and comment, but have no funding to do any advertising.  The more moms who share, the more we all benefit!  So here’s the deal …

We have a great Birthday giveaway!!

I’m offering a chance to win one of my SaneMoms Holiday Gift Paks to anyone who leaves a comment on this post.  That’s 4 one:one coaching sessions by phone, plus a handbound journal to keep your thoughts in, from The Sane Mom Coach.  You don’t even need to be a member!  Just click the Comment button below and leave a note of some kind.  It would be great if you let me know what would make you post more often :).  Get rid of logins and allow anonymous posts?  Go back to the old forum?  Have more news-current-events related questions?  Any feedback appreciated, but if you just want to leave a “Hey I’m In” comment that’s fine too!

DEADLINE:  THURSDAY DECEMBER 18th at MIDNIGHT! (EST).

Get those posts rolling, let your friends know about it, and I look forward to picking a random winner!  The shorter-than-usual deadline is a birthday present to myself, as I turn thirty-eight on Thursday :)  Let the comments roll!

Brooklyn Event ... Exercise and Help Women!

My friend Stacey over at Wellness Works has put together a fun Exercise-a-Thon Event next weekend, to benefit victims of domestic violence through Womens Law.org!  All proceeds help Womens Law provide easy-to-understand legal information and resources to women living with or escaping domestic violence.  Many of them are moms also, and I think it’s a great cause.  Details are below, and in case you can’t make the event but want to help out in a small or big way, here’s a link to Active Giving that will help you make a quick donation online.  Hope to see you there if you’re local!

Reporting back on The Business of Being Born

The Business of Being BornThe Business of Being Born was absolutely incredible.  It was moving, empowering, infuriating, and enlightening.  It gives some truly frightening statistics about the US’s status among developed nations when it comes to infant mortatality and maternal health, and makes a compelling case for really researching your options before giving birth!  I came away wanting to have another baby, just for the experience :) though that’s certainly not a good enough reason :) I’d highly recommend seeing if if you get a chance, go here to find out where it’s playing. Please go treat yourself to it if you can!

A Movie I can't wait to see ...

I’d make a Sane Mom Event trip out of going to see this if I could!  It’s the new movie The Business of Being Born, by Abby Epstein and Ricky Lake.  It’s about the birth industry here in the US, and looks like and expose/documentary type of thing.  It’s showing in NY, LA, San Fran cisco, and Seattle in the next month, and hopes for a wider theatre release before going to DVD, so get out there and see it if you can!  I’m going tomorrow here in NYC, and will report back what I find.  If you’ve seen it I’d love to hear what you thought!  I do think the way we feel about our birth experiences can have a big effect on how sane we feel afterwards, and knowing more about what choices we have is only a good thing.  Maybe it will inspire some of you to go share your birth stories over here in the Beginnings forum too :).

Run for the Moms 2007 - A Success!

runforthemoms07_logo.jpgThanks so much to all 30+ of you who showed up, in the freezing cold, to run our inaugural race in Fort Greene Park!  Thanks to the partipants, and all our sponsors and donors, we raised $760 for Room to Grow!  There were a few ‘first timer’ glitches, but nothing that marred the enjoyment and fun of the day.  Any feedback appreciated from those who were there, and look for another event next year. Thanks again to all for their enthusiasm and support!

Note : If any runners are missing a pair of white Ipod-looking earbuds, please let me know and I’ll get them back to you, we found them on the ground afterwards.

Race Update

Some have expressed concern about the weather, though current forecasts are very favorable for tomorrow morning!  If by some chance the weather is awful and the race needs to be cancelled (though a little snow won’t stop us), there will be a message posted here by 7am tomorrow, and every effort made to contact those already registered.

There will be lots of hot and cold drinks and snacks to keep you moving until the race starts 9am :)  Please arrive no later than 8:40 to check in and get your number.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the morning!

Countdown to the Race is on!

Only 4 days until the race, officially launching SaneMoms.com!  Just two more days of online registration for $20 (until midnight on the 13th), amd after that you’ll have to pay $25 to join in the fun on Saturday.  Lots of great prizes, raffle items, goodie bags (LilaGuides anyone?!) and free refreshments!  Come on and join the excitement, run with a stroller, bring a kid, or just spectate and cheer everyone on while snacking on great eats from the Greenmarket.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, and raising money to help Room to Grow help more kids!

The Race is ON!

runforthemoms07_logo.jpgDetails are still firming up, but you can sign up now for the inaugural Race for the Moms Fun Run!  Being held in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn on December 15th, it’s a 3k Run/Walk, and proceeds will benefit the Room to Grow organization.  Details are here … come join the fun!

Mark Your Calendars ...

Sanemoms.com is celebrating its web debut with a race!  Racing into the holidays, to be exact, with a 3k run/walk on December 15th.  Details forthcoming shortly, but it will be in Brooklyn, benefit undepriviledged moms, and make you feel great before the holidays!  Walk, stroller, jog, run … ALL levels welcome so long as it’s fun.  Stay tuned, and stay sane.

Wondering why sanemoms.com web debut is choosing a race to celebrate?  The birth of this site was inspired by the birth of my first son 5 years ago, and my resulting dance with insanity.  I soon became a devotee of ALONE TIME, and running has become one of the ways I get my time alone.  You don’t want to be around me if I start slacking on my running, trust me!  Whatever your favorite way of getting some time to yourself, running is a great way to start feeling better, and saner … give it a try for the next 2 months, and see how you feel!
